As a psychotherapist, I choose not to take insurance. I value your privacy, and I am able to provide you with more control over your care when I do not accept insurance. With insurance, psychotherapists have to submit a diagnosis and be subject to audits regarding treatment plans and progress notes. With me, all of your information is 100% confidential. There are some exceptions to confidentiality that will be discussed at your first session. Additionally, the services that insurance companies provide are often limited with services narrowed to what is allowed by billing codes. Private pay allows you to participate in services you need and want. You will not deal with long waiting lists for care either. Furthermore, the frequency of appointments is in your control and you can manage them within your price point. Sessions can be weekly, every other week or monthly depending on your needs. Finally, I do not need to diagnose you in order to provide effective care. It is mandatory to provide a diagnosis in order to use your insurance for payment. I would much rather focus on your recovery.

No. The full fee is due upon completion of the session. However, if you are unhappy with the services provided, I would be happy to discuss your concerns and explore alternative options that may better meet your needs. Additionally, I can provide you with a referral to a clinician who may be a better fit for you.

Everyone is entitled to cancel or reschedule a session. Please cancel or reschedule within 48 hours of your original scheduled time. If cancellations/rescheduling is less than 48 hours from your scheduled appointment, there will be a cancelation fee that is equal to the cost of a full session.

No, there is no fee for texting or calling outside of the scheduled session time. If this is an emergency, I would urge you to call 9-1-1 or go to your local emergency room.

During the first session, you can expect to spend time getting to know me and discussing your reasons for seeking therapy. I may ask you questions about your background, current concerns and goals for therapy. It is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions you have about the therapy process and to learn about my approach and my experience. Overall, the first session is a chance for us to begin building a trusting and collaborative relationship that will support your growth and healing.

Online therapy, also known as tele-therapy, is a form of therapy where you meet with a licensed therapist over video conference or phone call. It is a convenient and accessible way to receive therapy from the comfort of your own home without having to travel to a therapist’s office. One of the benefits of online therapy is that it is flexible and convenient. You can schedule sessions at times that work best for you and you do not have to worry about commuting back and forth. It is important to have a private and quiet space where you can speak freely with your therapist. With online therapy, you can expect to receive the same level of care and support as you would with an in-person session.

Therapists are legally and ethically bound to keep everything confidential that is discussed in therapy sessions with a few exceptions. I will discuss this in more detail during your first session including situations where there is an immediate threat of harm to yourself or others, or if there is a disclosure of abuse or neglect of a child or older/vulnerable adult. In these situations, I am required by law to break confidentiality. However, I will share only necessary information to protect you or others. I absolutely would discuss the sharing of information prior to doing so unless there is an emergency situation where immediate action is required. The confidentiality of your therapy sessions is taken very seriously and will only be broken in rare necessary circumstances. I will work with you to ensure that your privacy and confidentiality are respected as much as possible while still providing the best care possible.
